EXARC at the European Archaeology Days Forum 2025

EAD Forum 2025

EXARC was present at the EADs Forum that took place in Nice, FR on the 3rd and 4th April 2025. The Forum brings together national coordinators from every European country that participates in the EADs, as well as event organisers and partners, in order to discuss the present and future of this celebration.

Since 2019, the EADs are growing steadily to attract more countries, more events and greater audiences every year. With more than 2000 organisers in 30 countries in 2024, the EADs are now under the aegis of the Council of Europe.

The Forum allowed participants to focus on one main topic : how can the EADs attract new audiences unfamiliar with archaeology ? In fact, this is a shared goal throughout Europe, that motivates organisers to come up with events suitable for a variety of publics.

One of the highlights of the Forum : a session of « EADs in 3 minutes », that allowed several participants to share their experiences from last year’s events. Festive events with games, living history and hands-on activities, archaeo-quiz, exhibitions and more ; fun initiatives in the most fragile neighbourhoods ; excavation sites and laboratories open to the public for guided tours ; festivals organised with the local community ; traveling museums that bring heritage to the public… A great panel of inspiring events and activities take place throughout Europe over the three days of the EADs.

Experimental archaeology, living history and ancient technologies were often brought up in several discussions, since they are considered wonderful means to attract new audiences and talk about archaeology in a very tangible and lively way. The EXARC network is thus an important lever in order to promote archaeology and attract new audiences.

The 7th edition of the European Archaeology Days is coming up on June 13, 14 and 15. EXARC members can now register their events and be pinpointed on the EADs map : https://journees-archeologie.eu/
