SJ Jones

SJ Jones is a mixed-race African Nova Scotian and white settler. SJ is currently a PhD student in the History Department at Dalhousie University where they are researching the significant agricultural contributions made by the enslaved and free Black population in 18th-century Mi’kma’ki. SJ is particularly interested in Black craft and foodways that continue to exist in African Nova Scotia, as a result of the Transatlantic slave trade. Additionally, SJ is a caretaker of a flock of twelve Icelandic sheep, from whose fleece they make sweaters, table runners, pillows, and quilts.
