Bio

I am a specialist of the traditional portrait form of silhouettes, cutting silhouettes with scissors; and also interpreting their material culture and use in my own culture (USA) as well as other cultures (Australia , some English and European uses).

I was the 2023-2024 EXARC fellow to Colonial Williamsburg, researching the possible origin of the black papers used by itinerant artists in early America. My paper on my research was published in EXARC Journal 2025/1 (the first journal publication of 2025) .

I currently work at living history, traditional and open air museums cutting silhouettes, as well as in corporate and private events, public art, fulfilling commissions from organizations and private citizens, consulting for museums, and just enjoying material culture.

My interests also include historic farming techniques of many eras, farming methods and tools, and helping people find creative learning options.
